How do you organise your things?

Updated: Aug 5, 2022

I believe all of us have different priorities in life. With our busy schedules, we tend to neglect what we need to do with our home, most especially, cleaning and organising. It is not an easy task to do if you don't have the luxury of time and for this reason, we can no longer find the time to do it. Luckily, there are many ways now on how we can make our home clean and organised. Since most of the items can now be bought online, then you don't have any reason not to be able to purchase containers, shelves, and any other storage material which you can use for your things.

When I was younger, I didn't really bother making my things look neat until the time came when I told myself that it wouldn't be nice for a girl like me to be not taking care of my stuff. By being organised, you are able to take care of your things, group them together based on their use, and find something easily when you need it. This will really save you time when rushing for an appointment and you will also be able to keep track of the expiration dates of your make-up, medicines, lotions and other skincare products. There are many advantages for being organised with your things or possessions.

Nowadays, I always watch YouTube videos of vloggers who share about their houses and their rooms, and how they organise their things. Apparently, you would be able to get like a $5 storage container which is of quality and long-lasting already. It does not have to be expensive to be able to sort all your things to make them looking neat and tidy. It only takes one click to clean up because there are products available in the market which can help do the work for you.

On Netflix, I have also watched Marie Kondo who teaches us how to organise things the right way. I like it because she also incorporates her culture on how she does it. We can learn something from her and she will definitely make you feel that it is possible to do it even if you are not an expert about organisation. For example, she gives her opinions or suggestions on how to fold clothes where you can save so much space in the wardrobe. To put it simply, it just takes discipline and determination to make your room, as an example, look really good after hours of sorting between the things that you will keep and the things that you are okay to let go of. There is one thing that I cannot forget from her episodes, this is to make sure that you keep something if it still sparks joy, so if it doesn't spark joy anymore, then you can give it to someone else or just get rid of it as you are no longer happy having it around.

Also, it makes a lot of sense when you sort all of your things and find out which ones are still useful to you and which ones just clutter your space. As I have said earlier, there is a certain way of folding your shirt, socks or even your pants which will enable you to maximise shelves or cabinets in your closet and free up some space in the drawer as well. Moreover, you can do it with the rest of your clothes to be folded the same way because it's not only looking organised but it also looks very tidy and easy to get when you need it for daily use.

Based on my experience, it is easier to accumulate things rather than keep them in order. We have moved from one house to another so I know how difficult it is to pack your things, classify and put them all together. I just realised how much stuff I have got and it made me feel tired just by looking at them. If you are the kind of person who is not really into cleaning everyday, then it is hard for you to keep up with the demands of having too much unnecessary material things. So I would be suggesting to just keep it minimal, try not to buy anything excessively. You can keep it basic and just stick to what your lifestyle requires you. It will not only save your money but it will also save your time and energy.

We are now at a season of giving gifts to our families and friends, as well as, receiving presents from them. Having said that, you will be having more to take home and without you knowing, there is not enough room or space to keep these extra gifts. Just like yesterday, we had a little party wherein we exchanged gifts with one another, and I received a wallet. With all the wallets that I already have, this one is a new addition to my collection. Of course, I am really thankful, but at the same time, I'm already thinking in advance on how to store it properly, along with my other stuff.

What I do is to group all my things into those ones I don't need versus those ones that I still use. I put those I no longer need in a box which contains items I would be giving to other people or be sending to a country where I could help the less fortunate families and also take the opportunity to give toys to some kids. If you don't have any other choice but to keep them, you may buy storage containers where you can store all your basics, even your other valuables. If it is out of control, when these things are piling up and it is becoming quite overwhelming for you already, then these storage containers will help organise them in such a way that they are kept well by being stowed away in containers. It is also a good idea to label them accordingly. Generally speaking, it will be easier for you to declutter more effectively so that you can find your things way faster from here on, such a lifesaver! 💡
